In 2011, Edie Wells began the program in partnership with the Hospitality House, an overnight inmate family facility. During their stay, they are invited to express themselves through the process of making art. Local artist/builder, Dan Phillips and many volunteers, created a whimsical art studio space to expand the program. Students from Sam Houston State University volunteer their time and energy to provide care, mentoring and hope for the children of the incarcerated and their families.

The Hospitality House is the only overnight inmate family facility within Texas that operates seven days a week. The house welcomes families for visitations, executions, releases, marriage seminars, hospice visits, and funerals. Families are provided free lodging, meals and toiletries, in addition to a food pantry, school supplies, Christmas store and more.
